Dr. Katie Berns
Postdoctoral researcher
Katie is a postdoctoral researcher at NODUS, working on a European project to make carbon emissions data accessible and actionable for policymakers and communities. Her work bridges climate science and urban policymaking, designing tools that drive informed, inclusive climate action. Katie holds a Ph.D. in HCI from Stockholm University, where she specialized in Sustainable HCI and digital civics. Her research focused infrastucturing food waste activism through the lens of community economies. Her work has been published in venues such as CHI, NordiCHI, Communities & Technologies and Interacting with Computers. Looking forward, her future research aims to connect grassroots activism with climate policymaking, exploring how digitaltechnology can foster ethical, inclusive, and community-led responses to environmental challenges.
